Google My Business Optimization For A Maryland Vacation Rental Property in Ocean City, MD

Background:

The Blue Turtle is a 4 room vacation rental property in Ocean City, MD – a popular tourist destination, particularly in the summer. Under new ownership, the property had a Google My Business listing that had not been categorized or optimized accurately. This listing was not generating many views or conversions for key search terms. Furthermore, the property underwent major renovations and the images associated with the listing were outdated.

Solution:

By starting with a competitive analysis, the appropriate GMB categories were updated to represent the business accurately. A full optimization was completed which included adding all room types, crafting a fresh, new business description, updating imagery, adding relevant posts, researching/adding/correcting local NAP citations, updating information such as phone, website and attributes.

Results:

In the month following the Google My Business optimization, Total Views (combined map and search views) totaled 16k. Search views accounted for 1.6k views and map views accounted for 14.4k views. These views represent an increase of 42% in search views and 211% in map views. Of the 16k searches, 26% were “discovery” searches, meaning customers who had not searched directly for the Blue Turtle, but for the services provided (ie. “vacation rentals in Ocean City MD”) and 74% were “direct” searches, meaning users searched for the name or address of the business.
